1.) Cap Barbell Power Rack Exercise Stand

Cap Barbell Power Rack Exercise Stand

best budget power rack 2First on our list is the Power Rack squat stand by Cap.

At $89, with free shipping, this squat rack is extremely reasonably priced and going to be the most affordable option on our list.

Comprised of both 12 gauge and 14 gauge steel, this rack is made with sturdy materials.

Double gusseted uprights in order to reinforce the stability of the rack and promote safety.

Powder coated frame helps with the durability and longevity of the rack and helps prevent rusting.

Included on the base of the rack are two posts that will hold your weight plates for storage and make plates easily accessible for adding to your barbell.

Open ends of frames are capped off to prevent inner oxidization of the frame.

The safety catches have a sleeve on them in order to prevent scratches on the barbell.

At this price, the Cap squat rack is great for entry-level lifters and anyone interested in adding a squat rack to their home gym.

Do the pros and cons make this the most reasonable choice for the #1 spot? We thought so, but you decide!

  • PRICE:

The price of this squat rack is unbeatable. Customers were satisfied by the value because most of the time just shipping a piece of equipment like this would cost at least half of the product price. Sometimes purchasing large pieces for your home gym can be a risk – but at this price, why not risk it?

Along with being a great squat rack, this works extremely well for bodyweight exercises. Customers stated that leg lifts and pull-ups worked perfectly with this setup and only certain CrossFit or swinging calisthenics movements made the rack shake.

Granted, some people claimed the instructions for assembling the rack were useless, there were still many who had no problem putting the Cap Power Rack together. Many customers stated they were able to put it together on their own with minimal tools.

The light weight of the squat rack did end up turning a few customers away. As stated earlier, swinging exercises can be too much for the frame of the rack to handle. When doing exercises like muscle-ups or racking very heavy weight, you may experience some rattling.

As with most merchandise that requires assembly, there is the likelihood that pieces will end up missing before, during or after delivery. There were some who had to deal with parts being excluded from their delivery, which in turn forced them to contact Cap for spare parts. Sometimes customer service and aftersales are overlooked when purchasing items online, so make sure to do your research and see if there will be problems and if resolution occurs.

With a squat rack like this, you would expect your basic exercises – such as benching – to be easily performable. However, one customer stated that due to the way the holes are designed on the rack, the safety brackets do not attach in the proper position for bench pressing. When performing the exercise, you may experience discomfort from where you end up racking the barbell.

With the general feeling that there is some shakiness and wobbling that occurs with the Cap squat rack, we can agree there would be some who feared for their safety. Customers complained that with the uncertainty of the stability, they were not able to comfortably workout due to the constant threat of injury.

2.) Atlas Power Rack Squat Deadlift Cage with Bench Racks

Atlas Power Rack Squat Deadlift Cage with Bench Racks

best squat rack with lat attachment 2The second on the list is made by Atlas and is a full cage squat rack.

In all black with chrome catches and safety rods, the Atlas squat rack is very aesthetically pleasing.

These chrome-plated safety pins are 1” around and will lock into place for extra security.

Made with heavy steel that is rated to hold 1000-pounds.

Inner space of squat rack is roomy and spacious compared to several other squat racks on the market.

Atlas provides a 10-year warranty on the frame, meaning you are covered for a long time if there happens to be any structural flaws that come along with your purchase.

Can be adjusted to a total of 28 positions, allowing for several heights for different exercises and movements and accommodates different lifters at a variety of heights.

Also includes plate holders at the back of the base, which will be very useful and convenient during exercises.

Let’s see how the Atlas squat rack stacks up against the Cap, and if the 2nd spot is where it truly belongs.

Where some felt the Cap squat rack failed, the Atlas Power Rack shines. Many customers loved the overall build quality and stability that the steel frame had. Customers who were in the 200-pound weight range had no problems when working out using the Atlas rack.

The ease of assembly is an important feature for squat racks. With something so large and prominent in your home, you want it to be something simple to put together and straightforward. Those who purchased the Atlas squat rack were able to assemble on their own with no big problems and only a few tools needed. If you live alone, the assembly should not be too much of a hassle for you.

Many of the customers who set up the Atlas squat rack in their home said it was a worthy purchase and that you get the best bang for your buck from it. Quality, build, versatility and price were all factored in and made the purchase a great investment for several users.

For most people this will not be an issue, but for others it could possibly hinder workouts. The overall space in the rack may be too narrow for some to perform their benching and squats comfortably. If you are claustrophobic, you probably will want something less compact and enclosed.

Another problem that customers ran into was quality issues with the j-hooks provided to support the barbell. One of the concerns with the j-hooks was the mediocre welding job done on the joints. This was probably the biggest complaint about the rack overall.

Lastly, there were some who also were not impressed with the level of knurling used on the pull-up bar. In the grand scheme of the squat rack, this probably will not frustrate too many people who purchase it, but for those looking for a more versatile workout – the pull-up bar could be essential. It will get the job done, but the lack of deep knurling will result in a possibly slippery grip.

3.) Valor Fitness BD-7 Power Rack with Lat Pull Attachment

Valor Fitness BD-7 Power Rack with Lat Pull Attachment

best power rack for the money 2In third place, we have Valor Fitness’ BD-7 Power Rack.

The rack includes a lat pull-down attachment at no extra charge.

Includes two safety bars, four adjustable weight bar supports – all made with solid steel.

Four weight holding pegs at the back of the rack, which will accommodate several weight plates.

Comes with a pulley extension that will allow for lat pulls. Also, works great with your squats, bench, pull-ups and military press.

Definitely has the most attachments and accessories included out of all the squat racks on our list, but will that be enough to make it worth your purchase? Compare and contrast, and see if Valor has made the right squat rack for you.

Check out the pros and cons of this squat rack below

Made with a solid construction that feels very sturdy and does not shake around when in use. Customers were very satisfied with how the rack felt extremely safe when using it and it could maintain a lot of weight.

Squat rack, pulley system, pull-up bar, weight plate pegs – you name it, the Valor Fitness rack has it. If you need a basic squat rack and want something sturdy, then this one will work great, and it doesn’t hurt that there are extra features that will help complete your all around home gym.

The best thing you can get out of a home gym is space saving equipment. With Valor’s rack, you will have a fairly contained footprint and a lot of added extras. One of the best extras that Valor has included on the rack are the pegs for your weight plates. Instead of having a separate weight tree, you can easily rack your plates on the squat rack itself.

The packaging was pretty poor for the Valor rack. This caused a lot of the hardware to be loose in the boxes and some customers ended up with their rack being scraped and dinged up a little bit.

Most people who enjoyed the rack were simply unimpressed with the cable system. The lat pull down mechanism was too rough and choppy during use. Customers said it felt like you were trying to pull down really heavy weight when there was barely any weight added to the pulley system.

Most likely due to the poor packaging of the rack, there were several customers who ended up missing screws, bolts and nuts. One customer said that two major components of the rack were missing and he was only provided about ¼ of the hardware needed for assembly.

4.) PowerLine PPR200X Power Rack

PowerLine PPR200X Power Rack

best squat rack for home gyms 2Another full cage squat rack, PowerLine has made a rack with several height adjustments.

Includes two heat tempered barbell catches and large saber safety pins to catch your squats, with catches on the end to allow for benching.

A great frame for squats, incline pressing, bench pressing and standing shoulder shrugs.

An add-on lat pull-down can be purchased to go along with the PowerLine PPR200X.

Constructed with an evenly squared base, with end caps for safety and longevity of the frame.

The PowerLine also has a knurled pull-up bar at the top of the rack, which will be great for bodyweight exercises.

Will the PowerLine be the squat rack for you? Take a look at what customers found to be amazing and what they found to be somewhat lackluster.

Customers had a great experience with the strength of the steel used for the PowerLine PPR200X. All of the safety catches felt secure and would hold the weight properly without being potential hazards.

At the $300 price point, the PowerLine power rack gives you a great addition to your home gym at a reasonable price. It may not be as sturdy and hold as much weight as a commercial gym’s squat rack would, but it is very close without being thousands of dollars.

Unlike some other brands that may have sloppy welding or quality issues with their welding, the PowerLine has been said to have very professional, clean and proper welding on their squat rack. If quality construction is something you seek in your weightlifting equipment, rest assured that PowerLine has got you covered.

Free shipping and fast shipping are always a great bonus for a purchase of this magnitude. Squat racks can be very heavy and with PowerLine’s shipping you will definitely be satisfied. Customers were amazed at the speed of delivery.

Usually whenever exercise equipment is painted there will be problems with paint flaking off. However, almost all customers had to deal with the paint problem on the PowerLine squat rack. Apparently just inserting the safety pegs into the rack would scrape the paint off, as well as racking the barbell onto the safety holds. There seems to be touch up paint included in the package, but that will hardly help for high contact and friction areas.

A few customers agreed that the squat rack was a little narrow. Overall it worked great and got the job done, but some claimed things like wide grip bench would be tricky due to the lack of room for exercises like that. Not a deal breaker for most, but still an annoyance for some of the customers.

One customer stated that the uprights used to hold your barbell while benching were far too long. He claimed that they could easily accommodate three barbells if needed and that between sets, the barbell would tend to roll back and forth, causing it to need constant adjusting.

5.) Titan Power Squat Rack

Titan Power Squat Rack

best power rack for a home gym 2Lastly, we have a true beast of a squat rack. The Titan Power Rack by Titan Fitness.

With a weight capacity of 700-pounds, many lifters will be satisfied with this setup for their home gyms.

Comes with weight plate holders and a chin-up bar that is 80” from the ground.

Frame weighs 107-pounds, not too heavy and not too light.

Steel uprights are 2” thick and the rack comes with heavy-duty j-hooks.

Offers a good amount of room for your side-to-side movement during workouts.

The Titan squat rack will be a nice addition to your home gym at a reasonable price, but is it the best choice, or the worst? Even though it is last on our list, it holds enough merit to be on our list – so do your research on it. Listed below are what customers said they liked and didn’t like; but what will you like?

The Titan power rack is definitely sturdy and works well as a full cage rack. Customers stated they felt completely safe squatting heavy on it, even up to around 700-pounds. It may not be a commercial gym squat rack, but it works great for serious lifters.

Again, free shipping. You cannot beat free shipping, especially on something as large as this Titan squat rack.

Included with the rack is a pull-up bar that has deep knurling. For some, it may be too uncomfortable, but for others the knurling is great. If you are looking to do pull-ups without slipping off or worrying about sweaty palms, then this pull-up bar will work awesome – add some chalk and you’re golden.

More problems with j-hooks. Some had problems due to the hooks not lining up properly, while others did not like the design of the hooks at all. One customer stated that when he is racking the weight after benching, he often gets the barbell stuck on the top of the j-hook and believes the weight is racked, but then it slides down into the bottom of the hook, which can be startling to say the least. He said this made him more cautious when racking after his sets, but that in turn made him focus too much and took away from the exercise.

During assembly, some customers were unable to get the entire frame to be squared off. This had a lot to do with some of the pieces not fitting properly with each other and making the compatibility of the parts to be off. Even if you do end up getting the parts to fit during assembly, if the frame isn’t square and sound, you will have stability issues.

Several customers were unsatisfied with the overall weight of the squat rack. You would think based on the size and sheer build of the rack, it would be substantial in weight, but a lot of people were surprised how light it actually was. One customer believed that this was due to the steel not being a heavy enough gauge. Depending on the floor you are using your squat rack on, you may want to be sure it will be stable enough or find a way to secure it permanently if that is possible for your situation.
