Or, let’s just acknowledge how dirty a lot of gyms and equipment are.

Wearing gloves will be an added measure of protection against all of these problems.

Not only from avoiding sweat and callouses, but also improving your grasp on the weights.

Instead of constantly chalking your hands up (which most gyms won’t allow), you can wear a pair of gloves and reap all the benefits of a stronger grip.

The improvement in grip can really amplify where your workouts lead you.

Many times I have been in positions of doing a heavy bench press, but my grip didn’t allow a successful rep.

However, in using gloves, my physical (and mental) approach to the lift was boosted.

When you do this, you go about your gym routine the same way as usual, but with the benefit of gloves.

It doesn’t matter if you’re using free weights, machines or doing calisthenics and bodyweight work — gloves are useful.

They won’t impede the success of your workouts, nor will they feel intrusive.

So, wear your gloves whenever you want, in and out of the gym, because their versatility knows no bounds.

Barbell Bench Press

Especially if you are looking to hit some PRs and one rep max lifts.

Your gloves will help with grip positioning, strength, and control of your bar path.

Barbell Bicep Curls

This is especially true with heavier weight and during the eccentric part of the lift.

When your arms go down and the muscle is outstretched, your wrists and forearms are keeping the barbell controlled.

To consistently rep out your barbell curls, you should optimize the way you control the barbell.

As with the bench press, your gym gloves can help with this grip, but instead of the bar being pressed, it is now being curled.

Anyone who actively participates in forearm training, primarily wrist curls, knows how taxing they can be.

Not only on your forearms, but on your palms, grip, and wrists.

The knurling on a barbell or dumbbells can really rip up your hands if you aren’t using gloves during this movement.

Sure, you can focus your grip on the smooth part of the bar, where there isn’t knurling, but that limits your isolation angles and often results in less-than-perfect control of the weight.

To avoid the pain from knurling, I highly recommend using a solid pair of leather gloves for wrist curls.

Furthermore, if you aren’t training your forearms to gain better grip and hand strength, then you should really consider doing so.

Strong forearms, along with the best lifting gloves, will allow you to kill it in the gym.

 

Weighted Calisthenics

With all of the bar work and bodyweight movements, you’re likely to have achieved a certain level of callous on your hands.

So, in no way am I recommending you use weight gloves for basic calisthenics, as I do see that as counterintuitive to a large degree.

But, if you plan to occasionally do weighted calisthenics, then I see no reason against using your gloves for certain exercises.

In fact, protecting your hands from the roughness of lifting barbells and doing exercises with hex bars is actually the smart thing to do.

The more you can decrease injury to your hands, the better you can succeed in doing your calisthenics and bodyweight exercises in the future.

Like wearing a weightlifting belt for squats so you don’t injure your back and can, in turn, participate in other compound movements safely.

The same rules apply, and protection is key!

 

Deadlifts

To some degree, especially during a serious lifting moment, these factors are unavoidable.

You come up to the barbell, grab onto it, go to pull and your grip slips.

Damn… a failed deadlift.

Well, that’s no big deal, just do it again.

But, this time, maybe think of using some lifting straps or weightlifting gloves.

The reason these two things work well for deadlifts is that they help solve grip issues, as well as potential slippage.

With lifting straps, you really have a good, solid and secure hold on the barbell.

Using the gloves adds another dimension of safety for your hands, grip, and for the lift itself.

Make the investment in these tools, as they can take your deadlifts to another level.

You may not think you need gloves all the time, and that’s true, but why not keep them available?

In your gym bag, your pockets, or just wear them throughout your workout.

You can even keep a pair in the car so you can be ready in case you plan on lifting heavy that day.

Use your gloves like the exceptional tool that they are, and keep them within reach.

Some people may think wearing gym gloves is silly, but until they have their callouses rip, they don’t know the overall benefits of using them.

Protect your hands and the callouses you currently have, as well as prevent future ones, by utilizing gym gloves.
